PELLYVISION w/ Izella

Pellyvision’s first quarantine guest was Izella Berman, an LA based musician, DJ, and visual artist. She plays bass and sings for Jack Name and plays in experimental duo Pan and Misty. In the confines of her bedroom, she carves out moody musical realms and enjoys creating fantasy worlds through her detailed analog collages and film photography experiments. She also sustains a lifelong love affair with dance, her most formally trained outlet, and has amassed an eclectic collection of records, tapes and VHSes.

Shot and Edited Thought Forms: Linda Perhacs and the Creation of Parallelograms

This short doc was created in 2014 and finally released.

In 1970, Linda Perhacs’ released her visionary folk album Parallelograms. To celebrate Parallelograms' 50th anniversary, dublab proudly presents a short film featuring Perhacs explaining the synesthetic epiphanies that inspired the album's track. Over 40 years after the release of Parallelograms, Linda released her follow-up albums, 2014's The Soul of All Natural Things and 2017's I'm A Harmony.

Video Synthesis Workshop for Perfect Circuit (POSTPONED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS)

03-14-2020_AlexPelly_IG_1080x1080_r1v2.jpg

Saturday, March 14 - 6pm

Curious about how video synthesis works? Come and learn from the extraordinary video artist Alex Pelly the essentials of the art form.

Video synthesis, although originally emerging in 60's, still remains a largely under-explored territory for many synthesists. While it shares much of the same principles as traditional sound synthesis, the field is still full of mystery and misunderstanding.

Perfect Circuit decided to come up with something that will aid in demystifying the concepts of analog video synthesis. Thus we've invited an extraordinary video artist Alex Pelly for a one-of-kind workshop focused on the basics of the practice. Equipped with a flexible LZX modular video synthesizer, Alex will be creating a complex patch live, in front of your eyes, thoroughly explaining what each module's purpose is along the way.

Perfect Circuit / 2405 Empire Ave, Burbank, CA 91504

PELLYVISION W/ MYSTIC CIRCUITS

Recorded live Thursday, February 20, 2020

Check out the archive of this episode to patch yourself into a Mystic Circuit of audio exploration and alignment. Our reality is a dance of opposing energies, oscillating between tension and harmony in an eternal puzzle of interlocking paths. The uninitiated are often a victim to the rhythms which surround them, unconsciously allowing themselves to be modulated by signals echoing from ancient stories of distant lands. Then there are those who route themselves through a more Mystical path, closing the Circuit of reactivity and pressing start on a sequence of presence and intention.

Portals Art Show at Digital Debris Video Gallery

FlyerOption1x.jpg

On display February 15th - March 6

𝙋𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙨 is a site-specific video installation series created by Alex Pelly for Digital Debris. It explores experimental video as a doorway for the imagination. The exhibit is comprised of works which lead the viewer on a meditation of their own subconscious, offering a fixed point of focus and sense of forward motion through color, tempo, texture, and mood. The objective is to ignite a personal journey that is guided but untethered.

With a background in narrative filmmaking, Pelly moved into an abstract video art practice as a way to free herself from the limitations of physical production. Without the restraints of budget, location, actors, or crew, she discovered a direct pathway to authentic self expression. This work has also been a gateway into communities of art, music and video, propelling her beyond obstacles of gender stereotypes, sexism and aversion to self-display.

All works are created through an analogue video process, combining modular video synthesis, effects processors, and video feedback.

PELLYVISION W/ GIVS

Recorded live Thursday, October 17, 2019

This months guest was GIVS, two friends that share a love of improvisation, concocting spontaneous adventures with kinetic drums, swirling synths, and clouds of guitar. The duo blends shades of techno, ambient, jazz, and noise into something new, ecstatic and of the moment. When going solo as Give In (George Cochrane) and Voluminous Sparks (Chris Avitabile) the two inhabit very different sonic spaces, but as GIVS they leave those prior forms at the door and let the unknown happen.
