Archive of PELLYVISION w/ Smokey Emery

Broadcast live on DUBLAB 10.21.21

Since the age of seventeen, Daniel Hipólito has been capturing, fragmenting, and reconfiguring his life experiences through tape manipulation as Smokey Emery. Equipped with consumer recording devices, documenting and transforming life’s everyday chapters into vignettes of self reflective audio-journalism. By combining equally purposeful and random media, self played samples, found sound, public domain audio, homemade foley, field recordings from various locations, and hand cut reel-to-reel tape loops plucked from his own sound menagerie to be warbled, sped up, slowed down or reversed, all layered at vastly different speeds, linking displaced moments into cogent soundscapes. In this way, Smokey Emery utilizes time and substance as compositional elements that play an equal, if not dominant role in the sonic architecture.

Archive of PELLYVISION w/ Sha Sha Kimbo

Broadcast live on DUBLAB 9.13.21

With an unwavering love for the underground bass movement at the core of her artistry, Sha Sha Kimbo is a DJ, producer and bonafide raver from Los Angeles, California. As exemplified by her signature sound and style, Sha Sha has a championed ability to draw endless amounts of inspiration from the ’90s rave scene and intertwine a modern, future-forward perspective. This has since become a dedicated pillar of her productions and DJ sets alike, garnering a hard-earned reputation as a respected selector known for explosive, high-energy sets.

Music Video for Sha Sha Kimbo “Save The World” Premiers on Ransom Note

“Channeling the rave energy we've all been missing over the last year and a half, Los Angeles native Sha Sha Kimbo brings a heavy dose of breakbeat anthems on her new six-track EP 'Total Chaos'. Coming via John Frusciante and Aura T-09's Evar Records, Sha Sha translates the rich emotions that come from being back on the floor, moving through jump-up rave and euphoric breaks, which get a refresh on the flip from LYZZA, Machine Girl and LCY.

To accompany lead track 'Save The World', Canadian filmmaker and video artist Alex Pelly Save has crafted an eye melting acid trip to the underground, rife with explosive sensory colours made using glitchy analog video processing and audio-reactive modular video synthesis.”

See Ransom Note premiere here.

Archive of PELLYVISION w/ Cafe Ale

Broadcast live on DUBLAB 5.20.21

Cafe Ale is the project of Ale Cohen, a musician and producer based in Los Angeles. His work over the years includes the bands Pharaohs, Psychic Powers and Languis as well as numerous collaborations and production work with a wide range of artists. Cafe Ale was borne out of Ale’s studio, named affectionately by his friend Diego (aka Suzanne Kraft) who was offered a cup of coffee from Ale every time he visited.

At first Cafe Ale was simply a vehicle to showcase the work created in the studio by Ale and many of his friends. Although this continues to be the case, it has also turned into Ale’s “solo” project, ultimately being a mix of the two. Cafe Ale draws inspiration from dance, balearic, electronic, ’60s, post punk and experimental music. As done from its first release on Cooper Saver’s Far Away label, each release is masquerading as a mix, something like a performance from the legendary Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza known for its famous mixtapes.
